WHAT IS BEHIND THE DESIGN?
Back in 2016, I attended a design event where I met the owner and curator of a famous design shop by MAM Rio, called 'Novo Desenho'. While we were talking about the shop and what he takes into consideration when picking up the pieces he sells there, he mentioned a logistics aspect, I haven't considered much when designing a product at that time. He mentioned how important it is to save space in the shop, and that he had to turn down nice pieces because they would otherwise take too much space either from the shop or from it's storage room. Shipping and handling is an additional issue large pieces carry.
Fast forward to a few years later, I wanted to try to design a solid wood furniture piece with the least amount of parts I could think of, and use only parts with the same shape. I found a tool that makes possible to cut threads into the wood using the router. The piece that goes inside the tool has to be cylindrical, so that was the shape I decided to go for.

Thanks to the wooden thread on the feet of Maki stool, one can quickly and easily assemble or disassemble it. This makes the stool light and compact for shipping or transporting.
For the top piece of the stool, I wouldn't like to compromise on the comfort, so I decided to cut a curve on it, so the feet or legs can rest and not hurt. I built a template to make a precise cut using the router.
Design variations could be easily achieved by using different types of wood for the seat and legs.
